Electric gate installer training – Gate Installer Diploma from HSL Training

Due to increased demand summer 2019 dates have been released for the Gate Installer Diploma training from HSL Training.

GID CANDIDATES ARE INSTRUCTED AND ASSESSED IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:
1. Safety – taught by a qualified IOSH Health & Safety instructor:
a. Health and safety regulations and responsibilities
b. Safe use of power tools, including abrasive wheel
c. Working at height
d. Risk assessments

e. Method statements
f. Manual handling certification
g. Practical gate safety and the use of force test equipment
h. Technical files and certification

2. Onsite fabrication – taught by City & Guilds qualified welding instructors:
a. Health and safety in welding
b. Welding equipment and controls
c. MMA (arc welding) – BS 4872 standard
d. Practical training and assessment, leading to accreditation

3. Automatic gate safety and legislation – taught by the Door & Hardware
Federation:
a. dhf one-day Automated Gate Safety Certificate

4. Electrical – taught by an electrical area engineer (NICEIC/ELECSA):
a. EAWR – electrical regulations
b. Electrical test equipment for verification and certification
c. Safe isolation procedures
d. Use of electrical test equipment for fault diagnosis
e. Multi-brand control system familiarisation

5. Practical installation – assisted by professional gate
installation engineers:
a. Site assessment – installation risk assessment and
method statement
b. Powered-gate risk assessment and automation
selection/specification
c. Application of H&S practices
d. Swing gate – above ground automation installation
e. Swing gate – below ground automation installation
f. Sliding gate – automation installation
g. State-of-the-art safety device installation
h. Testing, certification and documentation

The GID course concludes with a closed book final written
paper, which assesses candidates’ retention of information from the past five days. Each candidate is then individually
debriefed and given feedback from each of the instructors –  advising on any further training may be required.
